Algorithms developed to predict the effect of missense changes on protein structure and function are either unavailable or do not agree on the potential impact of this missense change. The variant was absent in 251438 control chromosomes. The available data on variant occurrences in the general population are insufficient to allow any conclusion about variant significance. c.240C>A has been observed at a heterozygous state in an individual without clinical significance (Ahmad-Nielsen_2022). These report(s) do not provide unequivocal conclusions about association of the variant with Beta Thalassemia. To our knowledge, no experimental evidence demonstrating an impact on protein function has been reported.
