Pathogenic — the classification assigned by GeneDx to NM_000350.3(ABCA4):c.478G>T (p.Glu160Ter), citing GeneDx Variant Classification (06012015): The E160X pathogenic variant has been published in association with Stargardt disease (Lee et al., 2014). The E160X pathogenic variant in the ABCA4 gene was not observed in approximately 6,500 individuals of European and African American ancestry in the NHLBI Exome Sequencing Project, indicating it is not a common benign variant in these populations. The E160X nonsense variant is predicted to cause loss of normal protein function either through protein truncation or nonsense-mediated mRNA decay.
