NC_000017.11:g.(?_43070928)_(43071238_?)del was classified as Pathogenic for Hereditary breast ovarian cancer syndrome by Labcorp Genetics (formerly Invitae), Labcorp, citing Invitae Variant Classification Sherloc (09022015): This variant is a gross deletion of the genomic region encompassing exon 15 of the BRCA1 gene. This creates a premature translational stop signal and is expected to result in an absent or disrupted protein product. Gross deletions in BRCA1 are known to be pathogenic. A deletion of exon 15 has been reported in the literature in two families affected with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (PMID: 18431737) and as a de novo mosaic variant in an individual affected with breast cancer (PMID: 23216102). Exon 15 is also known as exon 16 in the literature. For these reasons, this variant has been classified as Pathogenic.
