This variant is likely to result in a shift in the reading frame, which results in the premature termination which is likely to result in either truncated protein or nonsense mediated mRNA decay. The variant c.981del has been reported as likely pathogenic/pathogenic variant by three submitters in the ClinVar database in individuals with Bardet-Biedl syndrome (ClinVar ID: 370281).
