Pathogenic for Hereditary breast ovarian cancer syndrome — the classification assigned by Labcorp Genetics (formerly Invitae), Labcorp to NM_007294.3(BRCA1):c.442-?_593+?del, citing Invitae Variant Classification Sherloc (09022015): This variant is a gross deletion of the genomic region encompassing exons 7-8 of the BRCA1 gene. This creates a premature translational stop signal and is expected to result in an absent or disrupted protein product. Gross deletions in BRCA1 are known to be pathogenic. Deletions of exons 7-8 have been reported in individuals and families affected with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (PMID: 18703817, 16551709, 10862036). Similar deletions are also known as deletions of exons 8-9 in the literature. For these reasons, this variant has been classified as Pathogenic.
