Pathogenic for Galactosylceramide beta-galactosidase deficiency — the classification assigned by Labcorp Genetics (formerly Invitae), Labcorp to NC_000014.8:g.(?_88431839)_(88434844_?)del, citing Invitae Variant Classification Sherloc (09022015): This variant is a gross deletion of the genomic region encompassing exon(s) 8-9 of the GALC gene. This deletion is out-of-frame, and is expected to create a premature termination codon and result in an absent or disrupted protein product. Loss-of-function variants in GALC are known to be pathogenic (PMID: 7437911, 9272171, 16607461). A similar copy number variant has been observed in individual(s) with Krabbe disease (PMID: 32089546). For these reasons, this variant has been classified as Pathogenic.
