Submitter rationale: This sequence change falls in intron 10 of the RARS2 gene. It does not directly change the encoded amino acid sequence of the RARS2 protein. It affects a nucleotide within the consensus splice site. This variant is not present in population databases (gnomAD no frequency). This variant has been observed in individual(s) with RARS2-related conditions (PMID: 26970947). In at least one individual the data is consistent with being in trans (on the opposite chromosome) from a pathogenic variant. It has also been observed to segregate with disease in related individuals.
