Pathogenic for Retinitis pigmentosa — the classification assigned by Women's Health and Genetics/Laboratory Corporation of America, LabCorp to NC_000006.11:g.(65336139_65523270)_(65707597_65767506)del, citing LabCorp Variant Classification Summary - May 2015: Variant summary: The variant identified by MLPA or other technology involves the deletion of exons 14-22 in the EYS gene. A presumed nomenclature of c.(2137+1_2138-1)_(3443+1_3444-1)del has been designated for the purposes of this classification. Although exact breakpoints of this deletion are not known, it is expected to result in a frameshift deletion change in the EYS gene, a known mechanism of disease. The variant was absent in 21694 control chromosomes (gnomAD, Structural Variants dataset). Deletion of exons 14-22 has been reported in the literature in multiple individuals affected with Retinitis Pigmentosa (e.g. Liu_2020, Sharon_2020, Colombo_2021). These data indicate that the variant is very likely to be associated with disease. Two ClinVar submitters (evaluation after 2014) cite the variant as pathogenic. Based on the evidence outlined above, the variant was classified as pathogenic.
