This variant lies in the XPC gene (transcript NM_004628.5) at coding-DNA position 1178, where G is replaced by A; at the protein level this means replaces arginine at residue 393 with glutamine — a missense variant. Submitter rationale: Variant summary: XPC c.1178G>A (p.Arg393Gln) results in a conservative amino acid change in the encoded protein sequence. Five of five in-silico tools predict a benign effect of the variant on protein function. The variant allele was found at a frequency of 3.2e-05 in 249254 control chromosomes. The available data on variant occurrences in the general population are insufficient to allow any conclusion about variant significance.
