Pathogenic for Hereditary breast ovarian cancer syndrome — the classification assigned by Labcorp Genetics (formerly Invitae), Labcorp to NC_000017.10:g.(?_41209048)_(41228651_?)del, citing Invitae Variant Classification Sherloc (09022015): This variant is an out-of-frame deletion of the genomic region encompassing exons 13-19 of the BRCA1 gene. This creates a premature translational stop signal and is expected to result in an absent or disrupted protein product. Deletions of exons 13-19 have been observed in individuals and families affected with breast and/or ovarian cancer (PMID: 12960223, 15681486, 16551709, 20616022). They are also known as a deletion of exons 14-20 in the literature. Loss-of-function variants in BRCA1 are known to be pathogenic (PMID: 20104584). For these reasons, this variant has been classified as Pathogenic.
