Pathogenic for Hereditary breast ovarian cancer syndrome — the classification assigned by Labcorp Genetics (formerly Invitae), Labcorp to NC_000017.10:g.(?_41209048)_(41215988_?)del, citing Invitae Variant Classification Sherloc (09022015): This variant is an out-of-frame deletion of the genomic region encompassing exons 17-19 of the BRCA1 gene. This is expected to create a premature translational stop signal and result in an absent or disrupted protein product. A similar deletion of exons 17-19 has been reported in an individual with breast cancer (PMID: 29582426). Exons 17-19 of the BRCA1 gene are also known as exons 18-20 in the literature. Loss-of-function variants in BRCA1 are known to be pathogenic (PMID: 20104584). For these reasons, this variant has been classified as Pathogenic.
