Pathogenic for Hereditary breast ovarian cancer syndrome — the classification assigned by Labcorp Genetics (formerly Invitae), Labcorp to NC_000017.10:g.(?_41196977)_(41277500_?)del, citing Invitae Variant Classification Sherloc (09022015): A gross deletion of the genomic region encompassing the full coding sequence of the BRCA1 gene has been identified. Loss-of-function variants in BRCA1 are known to be pathogenic (PMID: 20104584). The boundaries of this event are unknown as they extend beyond the assayed region for this gene and therefore may encompass additional genes. A similar copy number variant has been observed in individual(s) with breast or ovarian cancers (PMID: 16793929, 21281505, 24686251). It has also been observed to segregate with disease in related individuals. For these reasons, this variant has been classified as Pathogenic.
