(A) In the lock-and-key model, the substrate fits precisely into the active site of the enzyme. (B) In the induced-fit model, substrate binding distorts the conformations of both substrate and enzyme. This distortion brings the substrate closer to the conformation of the transition state, thereby accelerating the reaction.
