Possible mechanisms for TRPC channels in neuronal survival. NTFs and CCL2 activate PLC to cleave PIP2 into DAG and IP3. DAG and IP3 activate TRPC channels, and Ca2+ influx via TRPC channels promotes neuronal survival by the Ras/ERK- and CaM/ CaMK-CREB pathway. TRPC channels can also inhibit the release of cytochrome C, Bax, and Apaf-1 to protect neurons.
