Circadian rhythms in the syntheses of light-harvesting proteins in E. gracilis cultured in LD:12,12 and released into LL. Oscillations in the rate of synthesis of the 17-, 24- and 60-kD proteins were calculated from densitometric traces obtained by scanning fluorographs of the sedimentable protein fraction of cells labeled with [35S]methionine and separated by SDS-PAGE. Relative synthesis was quantified by correlating peak areas of the marked proteins to the total integral of their corresponding gel lanes. The 17- and 24-kD proteins were later identified as belonging to the family of light-harvesting- chlorophyll-proteins (LHCPs). Reprinted with permission from: Künne A, Pistorius E, de Groot E.
