Summary of Use during Lactation
No information is available on the clinical use of tick-borne encephalitis vaccine during breastfeeding. In general, vaccines given to a nursing mother do not affect the safety of breastfeeding for mothers or infants.[1,2] Because the vaccine is inactivated and contains no live virus, it cannot infect the mother or infant. No non-live vaccine has previously been reported to cause infant adverse effects via breastfeeding.[3] Maternal vaccination with tick-borne encephalitis vaccine is not a contraindication to breastfeeding.
