Similar pathologic events contribute to vascular dysfunction in hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and aging. Risk factor-induced oxidative stress, microvascular rarefaction, impaired vasomotor function, leukocyte–endothelial adhesive interactions, platelet recruitment/thrombosis, and reduced vascular distensibility are attenuated by regular exercise.
