Figure 2 depicts a shrinkage plot for ampicillin/amoxicillin versus placebo for treatment success. Seven studies note risk differences in percentages. The random effects pooled rate difference for clinical success by day 14 between ampicillin/amoxicillin and placebo was estimated at 12 percent; 95 percent confidence interval five percent and eighteen percent, and the number needed to treat for a clinical success was nine at a 95 percent confidence interval six percent and twenty percent.
