Short- and long-duration contractions in canine and human colons. The top tracing shows short-duration RPCs in the dog colon. The second tracing shows long-duration RPCs. The third tracing from the top shows three long-duration RPCs followed by a series of short-duration RPCs. The same strain gauge transducer (SG14) located at 14 cm distal to the ileocolonic junction made all three recordings. The bottom tracing shows a long-duration RPC followed by a series of short-duration RPCs recorded by a manometric tube from the human sigmoid colon.
