Model for retroviral restriction by TRIM5α. TRIM5α functions as a cellular factor for retroviral restriction that targets incoming retroviral capsids after viral penetration (post entry) or the Gag assembly during retrovirus production. TRIM5 may be involved in viral degradation of the Gag protein.
