What Is My NCBI?
My NCBI is a tool that saves user information, activities, and database preferences to provide customized services across many NCBI databases.

Note: Logging in is optional, however, activities and preferences are not saved after eight (8) hours of inactivity.
To use My NCBI, your Web browser must accept cookies and allow pop-ups from NCBI Web pages.

Accessing My NCBI
To access My NCBI, select the button located in the site header (see A below) at the top right of the screen. You can also access our login page directly at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/account/

Logging in to My NCBI
NCBI changed its log in procedure to use 3rd party logins starting in June 2021 and completed in June 2022. Please read the FAQs and write to info@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov with any questions.
To Log in to My NCBI, you must log in using a username and password from a 3rd-party partner organization that is linked to a My NCBI account. NCBI login has over 4,000 3rd-party partner options, including eRA, NIH, and Login.gov. Partner organizations include research organizations and commercial web sites using either an InCommon or OpenID standard to authenticate users.

When you log into My NCBI, your session will remain active until you Log out. Avoid using public computers to log in, as your account will stay active for anyone who later uses the same computer.
Logging in using eRA Commons or NIH credentials
Start at the NCBI log in page https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/account/
- 1.
Select either the eRA Commons or NIH Account button to provide your credentials.
- 2.
Note that once you log in to your My NCBI account you will be able to access your My NCBI dashboard from any NCBI database.
- 3.
You can log out at any time by selecting your username in the upper-right corner of the page and selecting Log out.

Logging in using credentials issued by a partner organization
Start at the NCBI log in page https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/account/
- 1.
Select
to locate your partner organization if it’s not listed on the initial screen.
- 2.
Search for and select your organization. My NCBI will redirect you to the partner organization login page.
- 3.
Enter your username and password registered with the partner organization.
Adding a Partner Organization as Log in option to an Existing My NCBI account
Start at the NCBI log in page https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/account/
- 1.
Log in to your account.
- 2.
Click your username on the upper-right corner of the page and select “Account Settings.”

- 3.
From “Account Settings,” scroll down to the Linked Accounts section.
- 4.
Select the “Add account” link. The “Link a new 3rd party account” dialog box displays.

Select a partner organization link. NCBI will redirect you to the partner organization login page.
Enter the credentials issued to you by the partner organization and accept the NIH login request for permission.
You will be redirected to My NCBI where the added partner organization will appear under “Linked Accounts.”
To remove a linked account, select the trash can icon next to the account that you would like to delete.

Note:
- If you are not logged in to your My NCBI account when searching NCBI databases, all history and preferences will be lost after eight hours of inactivity.
- If your institution is not included in the partner organization list, ask your identity system administrators to contact vog.hin.liam@tseuqernoitaredefhin.
- If you have multiple NCBI accounts and you would like to merge all your data into one account, contact the service desk at https://support.nlm.nih.gov/ and provide the following information:
- NCBI usernames
- eRA Commons username (if applicable)
- A description of any submissions made to other NCBI databases
- E-mail addresses associated with the other NCBI accounts
If You Forget Your Login Credentials
Logging in to My NCBI using your username and password is no longer available. However, if you have not retired your password, you will need this information to use the password retirement wizard. For more information about NCBI’s transition to 3rd-party only credentials, please read this announcement and contact the help desk with any questions.
If you have forgotten your username or password:
- 1.
Select Forgot login info? on the NCBI Log In page.
- 2.
Enter your e-mail address or username.
- 3.
Select Reset password.
- 4.
An e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you provided with your username information and instructions on how to reset your password.
