host descriptionPatient with percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube dependency presents from nursing home with aspiration pneumonia. Medical management for polymicrobial bacteremia (Klebsiella and Staphylococcus aureus) included cefepime plus cefazolin. Clinical course was complicated by septic shock and acute hypoxic respiratory failure. Patient was transitioned to palliative care and discharged to inpatient hospice. Duration of staphylococcal bacteremia: 5 days.
