Description

Zetaproteobacteria, a class of marine neutrophilic iron-oxidizing bacteria (FeOB), have recently begun to be recognized in coastal environments. Here we present the genome of Mariprofundus micogutta strain CP-5. Isolated from the oxic-anoxic transition zone of the Chesapeake Bay during seasonal stratification, this chemolithoautotroph produces bundles of iron-oxide dread structures, and is novel for its planktonic lifestyle.
