Description

Two actinomycete bacteria whose 16S rRNA gene displayed >99% identity to the type strain of Actinoalloteichus hymeniacidonis have been isolated from marine sponges Antho dichotoma (isolate ADI127-17) and Geodia barretti (GBA129-24) collected at the Trondheim fjord (Norway). Despite high level of identity on the 16S rRNA gene level, the new isolates differed from A. hymeniacidonics morphologically, and by requirement for sea water for growth. The project intends to compare genomes of the new isolates with that of A. hymeniacidonis, and to unravel unique genome features and biosynthetic potential of the three organisms.
