Thalassolituus oleivorans is a highly specialized marine hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria, a predominant hydrocarbon degrader from polluted sites in Barents sea. Thalassolituus strains make up from 10 to 30 % from total number of culturable oil-degrading bacteria. These bacteria are easily isolated on ONR7, a medium with alkanes and cannot grow on other substrates. This strain was isolated by Novikov A and Shatalov A, during Barents sea expedition.
