Description

Rhodococcus ruber strain Chol-4 was isolated from a sewage sludge sample from a wastewater treatment plant in Ciudad Real (Spain). It is a non-motile, non-spore forming, Gram-positive bacterium that forms a short mycelium and long rods of variable length when grown on solid complex medium during the early growth phase. Mycelia fragment into short rods and coccoid cells during later growth phases. Colonies are pale orange to salmon-colored when grown on LB agar plates. Predominant colony elevation is convex. Colony margin is plain and predominant surface texture is glossy. This strain is able to utilize a broad variety of carbon sources, including steroid compounds.
