Protocols: The organs were dissected from 13 developmental stages (starting at e93 until 20-26 years of age). The prenatal brain was divided into two regions: forebrain together with the midbrain (referred to as the ‘brain’) and hindbrain (referred to as the ‘cerebellum’). The postnatal ‘brain’ and ‘cerebellum’ samples comprise the dorsolateral prefrontal region of the cerebral cortex and lateral cerebellar cortex, respectively. RNA was extracted using the RNeasy protocol from QIAGEN. RNeasy Micro columns were used to extract RNA from small (< 5 mg) or fibrous samples and RNeasy Mini columns were used to extract RNA from larger samples. The tissues were homogenized in RLT buffer supplemented with 40 mM dithiothreitol (DTT) or QIAzol. The RNA-seq libraries were created using the TruSeq Stranded mRNA LT Sample Prep Kit (Illumina).
