More...Most resistance in Salmonella appears to arise by horizontal DNA exchange. We sequenced eleven strains of historical Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium. The goal of this comparative study is to understand how the plasmid(s) evolved, the type of genes they carry and how they mediate the transfer of antimicrobial resistance in Salmonella since the use of antibiotics began.
