The objective of this study is to reconstruct the evolutionary history and to study the evolutionary mechanisms involved in the diversification of the genus Junco (Aves: Emberizidae), a case of rapid phenotypic differentiation across North America that provides a unique opportunity to test the relative roles of neutral and selective mechanisms in driving lineage divergence and speciation.
