This project aims to understand the evolution of termite immunity and it contains 3 comparative transcriptomic studies: 1) identify and compare immune gene families of multiple cockroach and termite species from transcriptomic data; 2)compare individual immune response after challenging between a solitary cockroach, Blatta orientalis, a subsocial cockroach, Cryptocercus meridianus, and a social termite, Neotermes castanus; 3) compare social immune response of nestmates in contacted with challenged nestmates/conspecifics between a social termite, Neotermes castanus and a solitary cockroach, Blatta orientalis.
