Strain IMX2300 (fms1delta NcpanD) reproducibly showed a lag phase of approximately 48 h upon its first transfer from SMD to SMDdeltapan, and grew exponentially thereafter at a rate of 0.34 h-1. To explore whether the lag phase of strain IMX2300 reflected selection of a spontaneous mutant, it was subjected to three sequential transfers in SMDdeltapan.
