Molecular characterization and evolution of the first outbreak of vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecium in Western Australia.

To determine if there were any genetic advantages of the outbreak isolate, next generation whole genome sequencing was used to compare the genomes of vanB ST173 VREfm isolates recovered from the two outbreaks with the non-ST173 VREfm isolates.
