Molecular and Genomic characterization of colistin resistance from Enterobacteriaceae isolates

The rapid emergence and spread of multi-drug resistant Gram-negative bacteria has renewed interest in colistin as a last resort treatment.

There are multiplex chromosomal mutations associated with acquired colistin resistance; likewise, the recently mcr-1 plasmid-mediated colistin resistance gene described in China and shortly later was identified on all continents and in a wide variety of ecological niches.
