More...setdb1, a transcriptionally repressive histone methlytransferase (HMTs) of H3K9me3 was downregulated in patients with Crohn’s disease (CD), a life-threatening type of IBD. Setdb1 deletion in mouse intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) led to the spontaneous enteritis, recapturing the main features of human CD. Upon setdb1 deprivation, endogenous retrovirus (ERVs) reactivated in epigenetic dysfunction genome and generated endogenous provirus. we provide evidence that, upon loss of setdb1, ERVs can be activated in intestinal crypt. This ERVs can initiate iflammatory cellular events.
