In this study growth parameters and interactions within constructed defined co-cultures comprising the methanogen Methanoculleus bourgensis and one, or several, of the syntrophic acetate oxidizers Syntrophaceticus schinkii, [Clostridium] ultunense, Tepidanaerobacter acetatoxydans, and a novel, uncharacterized bacterium were analysed.
