Apricot growers, in China, the Mediterranean European countries, Turkey and the United States, produce 2.3 million tons of this stone fruit. Susceptiblility to a number of viruses is the main limiting factor to increasing the range of cultivation. Genetic maps will allow introgressing resistance genes from selected apricot cultivars or other Prunus species. Genetic maps have been developed to further this effort.
