Bacillus megaterium QM B1551. Bacillus megaterium QM B1551 is the most extensively studied strain of B. megaterium. Several hundred strains are available from the Bacillus Genetic Stock Center. QM B1551 (Quarter Master Bacterium #1551, ATCC 12872) was isolated by Hillel Levinson at the Pioneering Research Division, Quartermaster and Engineering Center, Natick, MA and has been the strain of choice in several laboratories. Historically, the strain has been used for many studies on various aspects of spore physiology and cell wall structure (diaminopimelic acid).
