More...We examined and compared nine SAGs belonging to the phylum Chloroflexi recovered from the Iheya North hydrothermal field in the Okinawa Trough during the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) Expedition 331. Isolated strains within the order Dehalococcoidales have been shown to grow by reductive dehalogenation. One of our SAGs belonging to the Anaerolineales contained a reductive dehalogenase gene (rdhA). Currently, only one strain of Anaerolineales, A. thermophila UNI-1 has been sequenced and this study expands the known metabolic repertoire of this elusive class of microbes.
