More...We described the establishment and succession of epinecrotic bacteria communities on carrion during decomposition in a headwater stream located near Millersville, PA. The skin of stillborn swine carcasses (n = 3) was sequentially sampled using sterile swabs over seven weeks during the winter of 2012. The bacterial community succession that occurred was described using characterized by modified bacterial tagged encoded FLX amplicon pyrosequencing (bTEFAP) with PCR amplification for the V1-3 regions of 16s rDNA. Samples were immediately stored on ice and then transferred to -80°C until DNA extraction. DNA extraction was performed using a modified chloroform-isoamyl alcohol extraction following bead beating and chemical cell lysis.
