The aim of the study was to analyze bacterial communities and pathogenic bacteria in water samples using shotgun metagenomic analysis. A total of 10 water samples were collected in the Sapporo campus of Hokkaido University on October 16th, 2012. Eight samples were collected from different points along the Sakushukotoni stream (HKU_A, HKU_B, HKU_C, HKU_E, HKU_F, HKU_G, HKU_H, HKU_I, and HKU_J), one sample was collected Ohno Pond, (HKU_D), and another sample was collected from Hyotan Pond (HKU_J). Bacterial cells were concentrated using a filtration technique with four pore-sizes of membrane filters: 100 um, 10 um, 5 um, and 0.22 um. The libraries were prepared using Illumina MIseq sequencer and reads were used for further analysis.
