Campylobacter jejuni subsp. jejuni CG8421. This strain is a clinical isolate from a patient in Thailand. Pathogenic Campylobacter jejuni strains generally contain sialylated lipooligosaccharide (LOS) cores that mimic the structure of human gangliosides. This molecular mimicry can result in development of a post-infection complication known as Guillain-Barre syndrome. Campylobacter jejuni subsp. jejuni CG8421 lacks these LOS cores, hence, it has the potential to be used as a safe human challenge model. Less...
