The Wellcome Trust has funded an EST sequencing project at the Pathogen Sequencing Unit of The Sanger Institute, in collaboration with Professor Mike Lehane at University of Wales, Bangor. Approximately 20,000 cDNAs from an infected midgut cDNA library of Glossina morsitans morsitans (Tsetse Fly) will be sequenced. The Tsetse fly is the vector for the parasite Trypanosoma brucei, the causal agent of African sleeping sickness in humans and Nagana in cattle.
