An EST sequencing project for the African satyrine butterfly Bicyclus anynana was conducted by researchers at the University of California, Irvine and the Turku Centre for Biotechnology. 9,903 ESTs from developing wing tissues were generated and used to identify 4,251 genes. Further analyses identified over 14,000 putative SNPs and 320 microsatellites which may be useful as genetic markers.
