Bacillus cereus AH1134. This strain was isolated from a pediatric endophthalmitis case at Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City. It has been characterized for phospholipase PI-PLC and PC-PLC production, and protease activities as well as being shown to be positive for the enterotoxin HBL and the sphingomyelinase SPH genes by PCR. In addition, B. cereus AH1134 is motile and was characterized as a very aggressive strain in reference to speed of the symptoms, such as explosive inflammation and time before complete loss of vision (< 12h). The availability of the rabbit endophthalmitis model system will provide addition leverage to this genome sequence.
Sequence was obtained from three libraries - a fosmid library (33-39 kb; 50,605 reads), a medium insert library (10-12 kb; 8,950 reads), and a small insert library (3-5 kb; 7,912 reads). Less...
