Thermosipho melanesiensis BI429. This organism (strain BI429) is part of a sequencing project consisting of seven Thermotogales that will hopefully address questions relating to horizontal gene transfer from archaeal organisms to this branch of the bacteria. BI429 (CIP 104789) is the type strain for this species and was isolated from the gills of Bathymodiolus brevior, a deep-sea mussel.
