Ascoviridae

Description of Ascoviridae

adapted from ICTVdb

Virion Properties

Morphology

Virions consist of an envelope, a core, and an internal lipid membrane associated with the inner particle. Virus capsid is enveloped. Virions are bacilliform, ovoid, and allantoid. Virions measure 130 nm in diameter; 200-240 nm in length. Inner particle is elongated and has a complex symmetry.

Nucleic Acid

The genome is not segmented and contains a single molecule of circular double-stranded DNA. The genome has a guanine + cytosine content of 42-60 %.

Proteins

The viral genome encodes structural proteins and non-structural proteins.

Non-Structural Proteins: The virus codes for an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. In addition to the polymerase, the virus codes for enzymes such as transcriptase and replicase.
