More...Musa (banana and plantain) is an important genus for the global export market and in local markets where it provides staple food for approximately 400 million people. Existing data indicates that plantain (Musa paradisiaca ABB Group) has obviously superior stress resistance (drought, chilling, disease, etc.) compared to banana (Musa acuminata AAA Group). In order to identify resistance genes/proteins from plantain for following banana breeding programs, here we report the use of next-generation massively parallel sequencing technologies and de novo transcriptome assembly to gain a comprehensive overview of the plantain transcriptome. The assembled sequences were translated and annotated with gene descriptions and Gene Ontology (GO) terms.
