Totiviridae (monopartite dsRNA genome mycoviruses)

Description of Totiviridae

adapted from ICTVdb

Virion Properties

Morphology

Virions consist of a capsid. Virus capsid is not enveloped, round with icosahedral symmetry. The isometric capsid has a diameter of 30-40 nm.

Physicochemical and Physical Properties

Virions have a buoyant density in CsCl of 1.3-1.42 g cm-3.

Nucleic Acid

The genome is monopartite, only one particle size is recovered of linear, double-stranded RNA. The complete genome is 4700-6700 nucleotides long. The 5'-end of the genome does not have cap. Each virion contains a single copy of the genome plus a subgenomic RNA (of 1100 nucleotides packed in low frequency).

Proteins

The viral genome encodes structural proteins and non-structural proteins.

Lipids

Lipids are not reported.
