The effort to develop a genetic map to inform the assembly of genome sequence has been a multinational effort involving three groups: a group in INRA, France; a group led by Doug Cook at Univeristy of California at Davis and a group led by Nevin Young at the University of Minnesota. This effort also included large-scale development of PCR based markers.
