Solanum tuberosum mapping projects

A number of linkage maps have been developed in the European Union and the United States. A moderate-density map has been constructed by Tanksley et al. The mapping population was derived from S. tuberosum X S. berthaultii backcrossed to S. berthaultii. The map has more than 250 markers. A moderate-density map has been developed by C. Gebhardt and F. Salamini in conjunction with their colleagues [initially reported in Theor Appl Genet (1991) 83:49-57] which has been the framework for placement of molecular function markers for carbohydrate metabolism and transport [Theor Appl Genet (2001) 102:284-295]. After solving the problem of constructing a genetic map under tetrasomic inheritance Luo et al, a high-density map has been developed by a EU collaboration.
